Smoke testing

Each year Hunter Water and our contractors complete an extensive works program to make sure water and wastewater infrastructure stays in good shape.

We have engaged a contractor, Interflow, to carry out routine smoke testing of our wastewater (sewer) system at various sites, as part of our maintenance program. The work involves smoke testing Hunter Water’s wastewater network (including sewer pipes and maintenance holes).

About the work

We will be conducting smoke testing of wastewater infrastructure located at Hunter Water pump stations.

Work involves using a smoke-fog generating machine to direct smoke into our wastewater pipelines and monitoring them to see if or where smoke comes out. The smoke-fog used in the testing is non-toxic and will disappear quickly.

This testing may help identify faulty plumbing or cracks in the system.
