Pressure managed areas

Changes to water pressure

Hunter Water is rolling out a water pressure management program in parts of our network to help reduce leaks, bursts and interruptions.

The program targets areas of very high water pressure, which can cause our water mains to leak or burst. Excessive water pressure can also damage household plumbing and lead to higher water usage.

For customers who have received a notification about pressure reduction

Most customers will not need to take any action, unless they have a dialysis machine or fire safety measures such as fire hydrants, reels and sprinklers at the property.

If your property has this equipment, please get in touch with us so we can advise on what to do to help you prepare for the pressure change.

If you are a tenant, please note we will also contact the property owners with this information.

Pressure reduction locations

Charlestown - We plan to gradually reduce the high water pressure in parts of Charlestown from March 2026, for a six week period, until the desired pressure is reached.

Other areas – We will update this page as we commence pressure reductions in other areas.

Will I notice a change in pressure?

Pressure will be gradually reduced over a six-week period. Most residential customers are unlikely to notice any change in water pressure. Hunter Water will notify customers in pressure managed zones.

Domestic appliances (such as washing machines, dishwashers and hot water systems) should continue to function normally with the new pressure.
