Modern slavery

Modern slavery occurs when people are coerced, threatened, or deceived and cannot leave or refuse work.

It includes practices such as forced labour, human trafficking, debt bondage, forced marriage, and child exploitation. It's often hidden and can occur in any country, including Australia, across many industries and supply chains.

Our commitment

As a purchaser of a wide range of goods and services, we recognise our responsibility to our customers, shareholders and the community to work with supply partners that are ethical, environmentally sustainable and socially responsible.

We are committed to:

  • Prioritising ethical procurement by working only with supply partners who meet ethical, social and environmental standards.
  • Actively identifying risks by assessing our operations and supply chains for any indicators of modern slavery.
  • Driving continuous improvement through training, process refinement and collaboration with partners.
  • Maintaining transparency by reporting annually in compliance with the Commonwealth Modern Slavery Act 2018 and the NSW Modern Slavery Act 2018

Supply partner support

We seek the support of our supply partners in identifying and addressing modern slavery risks within their supply chains. This may include:

  • Providing information on modern slavery and human rights risks in their operations and supply chains.
  • Demonstrating how they identify, assess, and manage modern slavery risks, including the effectiveness of those measures.
  • Reporting any suspected or actual instances of modern slavery to us.

Supplier Partnership Principles

To strengthen our commitment to ethical, sustainable and socially responsible practices, we have established our Supplier Partnership Principles (SPP).

These principles are built into the tender stage of our procurement program to ensure our supplier partners align with our values.

Report suspected modern slavery

If someone is in immediate danger, or a child is concerned, call 000.

If you suspect an instance of modern slavery within our supply chains, workforce or operations you can contact us or report confidentially or anonymously though our Whistleblower Service:

Action we take

When we receive a report of suspected modern slavery, we will:

  • Prioritise the protection of affected individuals.
  • Commence an internal investigation.
  • Notify the appropriate authorities where required (e.g. Australian Federal, NSW Anti-Slavery Commissioner etc.)
  • Take immediate and safe action to address any harm and implement a remediation plan in collaboration with the supply partner.
  • Terminate the supplier relationship only as a last resort, after all other remediation options have been fully explored and exhausted.
