Service location plans

Before starting any work on your property, it is important to know where underground pipes and cables are located.

You may also want to know where Hunter Water pipes are if you are planning to build or renovate.

A service location plan only shows Hunter Water assets. It does not include internal house pipework or drainage.

  1. Visit Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) and lodge your enquiry online.
  2. Sign in or register for a free account.
  3. Provide the following project details: start and expected finish dates, type of work, project location.
  4. BYDA will use this information to give you the right plans for your project.
  5. If you cannot get a free service location plan from Before You Dig Australia, complete our online form

Service location plan application

The current charge for a service location diagram sewer/water is $14.10. This charge is GST free.

Important information before you apply

  • The service location plan only shows Hunter Water assets. It does not include internal house pipework or drainage.
  • Hunter Water does not manage storm water facilities. Contact your local council for information about storm water pipes.
  • If your property is part of a new subdivision not yet registered with Land Registry Services, we cannot provide a location diagram. You can reapply once the property is registered.

Due to a high volume of applications, our current processing time is five business days.
