Water Treatment Plants

Hunter Water ensures we meet the required drinking water guidelines by following a careful treatment process at our water treatment plants.

Water treatment plants are also known as water filtration plants. Our plants are located at:

Grahamstown Water Treatment Plant

Grahamstown Water Treatment Plant can treat water from Grahamstown Dam and or Tomago Sandbeds. The plant has a peak supply capacity of 257 megalitres per day and is Hunter Water's largest water treatment plant.

Grahamstown Water Treatment plant uses conventional treatment, and includes the following processes:

  • coagulation / flocculation
  • sedimentation
  • filtration
  • pH correction
  • disinfection
  • fluoridation

Dungog Water Treatment Plant

Dungog Water Treatment Plant treats water from Chichester Dam and has a peak supply capacity of 90 megalitres per day.

The treatment plant uses direct filtration, and includes the following processes:

  • coagulation / flocculation
  • contact filtration
  • pH correction
  • disinfection
  • fluoridation

Lemon Tree Passage Water Treatment Plant

Lemon Tree Passage Water Treatment Plant treats water from the North-Eastern end of the Tomago sandbeds and provides a peak supply capacity of 5 megalitres per day.

The treatment plant uses two-stage filtration, and includes the following processes:

  • aeration
  • coagulation / flocculation
  • two stage filtration
  • pH correction
  • disinfection
  • fluoridation

Anna Bay Water Treatment Plant

Anna Bay Water Treatment Plant treats water from the Anna Bay sandbeds and provides a peak supply capacity of 12 megalitres per day.

Anna Bay Water Treatment Plant includes the following processes:

  • aeration
  • pH correction
  • disinfection
  • fluoridation

Nelson Bay Water Treatment Plant

Nelson Bay Water Treatment Plant treats water from the Anna Bay sandbeds and provides a peak supply capacity of 12 megalitres per day.

Nelson Bay Water Treatment Plant includes the following processes:

  • aeration
  • pH correction
  • disinfection
  • fluoridation

Gresford Water Treatment Plant

Gresford Water Treatment Plant can treat water from the Allyn or Paterson Rivers. The plant has a peak supply capacity of 0.6 megalitres per day.

Gresford Water Treatment Plant includes the following processes:

  • microfiltration
  • disinfection
