Damaged or stolen meter replacement
If a water meter is damaged or stolen, it’s the property owner’s responsibility to arrange repairs.
Property owners are responsible for maintaining and repairing all pipes on their property, including the meter frame (the pipes that holds the meter in place). If repairs are required, you’ll need to engage a licensed plumber at your own cost.
Damage caused by an accident or vandalism
If your meter or meter frame is damaged, for example, if it has been run over or vandalised, you’ll need to arrange a licensed plumber to repair your water service and install a spacer on the meter frame.
Once the repair is complete, you or your plumber will need to submit our meter replacement form so we can replace the meter.
Stolen water meter
If your meter has been stolen:
- Arrange a licensed plumber to repair or replace the meter frame. The plumber will also install a backflow prevention device (if required) and fit a spacer to suit the size of the stolen meter.
- Report the theft to the NSW Police
- Submit our meter replacement form below.
General damage over time
If your meter is leaking, has stopped working or hard to read, report online and we’ll inspect the meter and, if needed, replace it as soon as possible.
