Morpeth's New Biological Treatment Plant

The new Morpeth Wastewater Treatment Plant was officially opened in December, the first in the Hunter to employ Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR). The original facilities were constructed in the 1930s, and while meeting current standards set by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), an upgrade was required to meet even higher standards while also catering for population growth. The new plant was capable of treating an average flow of over 14 million litres per day, with capacity to serve a population of around 60,000 people.
