Overview
Cardiff South Water Pump Station is being upgraded to improve the efficiency of the station to reduce operating costs. The upgrade will include installation of new electrical components and the addition of stairs to the building to improve emergency access.
The Water Pumping Station is located at 57 Maud Street, Cardiff South, in the Lake Macquarie local government area.
The site was identified in 2010 as having historical significance by the Hunter Water Conservation and Heritage Register Study. The design process has considered the nature and character of the existing building by specifying appropriate matching brickwork, render and colourings for external modifications.
The upgrade will include installation of new electrical components and the addition of stairs to the building to improve emergency access.
The project is part of Hunter Water's unprecedented $700 million capital works program of infrastructure projects that includes pipes, water mains, reservoirs, treatment plants, sewers and water recycling facilities.
Work has commenced in March 2012 and will be completed by June 2012.
How this might affect you?
Residents may notice increased traffic and activity around the Water Pumping station during construction.
A traffic management plan will be in place to direct traffic safely through the area.
Some residents may also experience an increase in noise, dust and vibration during construction.
During the switchboard replacement a generator will be used to supply power to the pumping station for up to two weeks. This generator will be required to run day and night. The noise produced will be in the low to mid frequency range. Residents who may be affected will be notified 7 days prior to the use of the generator.
Your patience and understanding is appreciated as we undertake this important upgrade of the Cardiff South Water Pumping Station.
