Overview

Hunter Water commenced construction works on the Adamstown wastewater system upgrade in November 2011. It is anticipated the works will take one year to complete.
This work will reduce the frequency of wet weather sewage overflows providing benefits for the community and local environment.
The work involves building a new wastewater pumping station at West End Park on Glebe Road Adamstown. A network of new wastewater pipes in the residential streets of Adamstown will take wastewater flows to the pumping station. The flows will then be pumped through new pipes in Victoria Street and Lockyer Street to a less congested part of the existing wastewater network loacated beneath Merewether Golf Club.
As part of the Newcastle Wet Weather Transport System upgrade, a 1.3km pipeline was constructed in late 2006 from beneath the Merewether Golf Course to the Burwood Beach WWTW.
Currently works are underway to upgrade the Adamstown Wastewater System and use this pipeline to direct wastewater from Adamstown directly to Burwood Beach. From mid-April until the end of July 2012, Hunter Water's contractor Diona will be working at the Burwood Beach WWTW site to connect the new Adamstown system to the WWTW.
How this might affect you?
Houses along the pipeline route may experience some noise and dust during the work. Some homes and businesses may also have temporary access disruptions and use of some parks may be restricted temporarily. There will be some road closures and minor traffic delays. We will work with the community to minimise the impact of our work.
Whilst construction work continues at the Burwood Beach WWTW, the access road will remained closed to all unauthorised vehicles, cyclist and pedestrians. There will be up to 20 heavy vehicle movements per day on the access road whilst construction is underway. These movements will occur during construction hours; 7am - 6pm Monday to Friday and 8 am to 1pm on Saturdays.
Residents along the pipeline route will be notified 5 weeks prior to works commencing near their property and those directly affected, one week prior to works commencing.
