Hunter Water celebrates National Water Week 2025: Bringing Water into Focus

Hunter Water is proud to celebrate National Water Week from October 20 to 26, 2025, embracing this year's theme, "Bring Water into Focus". This initiative encourages the community to recognise water as the essential, interconnected resource that sustains our daily lives and shapes our environment.

Hunter Water’s Executive Manager Strategy and Engagement, Emma Berry, appreciates the importance of this theme and how it applies to residents and businesses across the Lower Hunter.

"Water is the invisible thread connecting everything in our lives, from the food we eat to the ecosystems we cherish. This week, we invite everyone to bring water into focus and appreciate its value in our homes, schools, businesses, and communities,” Ms Berry said.

Hunter Water’s newly launched summer water conservation campaign will continue to inspire sustainable water use practices in the community by reminding everyone that Every Day is a Good Day to Save Water.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s long-range forecast suggests a warmer-than-average summer ahead, with the potential for increased rainfall and storms across eastern Australia.

Hotter days, higher evaporation, and unpredictable rainfall patterns can all place pressure on water supplies, making it vital that our community continues to build healthy water-saving habits all year round. Regardless of the weather we encourage everyday water-saving habits, such as watering outside before 10am or after 4pm and aiming for a 4-minute shower.

"Our climate is becoming more unpredictable, making it crucial to adopt water-saving habits no matter the forecast.

"By bringing water into focus, we can collectively ensure a sustainable water future for the region,” Ms Berry said.

Hunter Water continues to invest in infrastructure to secure the region's water supply, including the implementation of the Lower Hunter Water Security Plant. Construction of the desalination plant in Belmont has commenced which will provide up to 30 million litres per day of rainfall-independent drinking water capacity, representing about 15% of the region's average daily needs.

These investments are underpinned by an ongoing focus with our community on water conservation and continuing to reduce leaks from our water system.

"We continue to engage with our community and collaborate with local businesses to promote the importance of saving water through reducing leaks and water-saving practices and technologies.

"National Water Week is an opportunity for everyone to reflect on their water use and take action. At Hunter Water, we're committed to doing our part, and we encourage the community to join us in bringing water into focus for a sustainable future,” Ms Berry said.
