Paws for Celebration: Hunter Water Announces 2026 Love Water Grants Recipients

Hunter Water is proud to announce the successful recipients of its 2026 Love Water Grants program, with 16 community organisations, schools and community groups awarded a share of $123,839 in funding to support water-saving and sustainability-focused initiatives across the Lower Hunter. Now in its eighth year, Hunter Water’s Love Water Grants program offers one-off funding of up to $10,000 for projects that promote water conservation and efficiency, as well as initiatives that deliver education, environmental stewardship and sustainability outcomes for local communities. 

Minister for the Hunter, Yasmin Catley, said water is one of our most precious resources, and protecting it requires action from all of us. “We know the Hunter is a growing region, and with that growth comes the responsibility to use our water wisely and invest in projects that protect this vital resource for generations to come. 

“It’s not always easy to see the impact of water-saving initiatives day to day, which is why supporting local organisations that are turning good ideas into real action is so important. 

“I congratulate Hunter Water for backing these projects and putting real investment behind programs that are helping our community save water, build resilience and create a more sustainable future. 

“Every drop counts, and when households, businesses, community groups and organisations all play their part, we all benefit.” 

Hunter Water Managing Director, Jennifer Hayes, said the Love Water Grants program continues to empower local organisations to deliver practical and innovative sustainability outcomes. 

"We were pleased to support 16 projects with a total of $123,839 in funding, following a rigorous assessment process. These projects represent a diverse range of communities and audiences and demonstrate practical, innovative approaches to water conservation and sustainability. 

"From rainwater harvesting systems and irrigation upgrades to community gardens, bush tucker gardens and education initiatives, these projects will deliver lasting environmental, educational and social benefits across our region. 

"Hunter Water is proud to partner with organisations that share our commitment to valuing water and creating a more sustainable future for the Lower Hunter," Ms Hayes said. 

Among this year’s recipients is the Combined Northern Canine Committee (CNCC), a volunteer-run not-for-profit organisation that manages dog exhibition and training grounds at Hillsborough used by more than 30 local dog clubs. 

Funding will support the installation of three rainwater tanks and associated infrastructure to harvest and store rainwater for irrigation, helping maintain a venue that hosts dog training, education programs and major canine events that promote responsible pet ownership and community connection across the region. 

CNCC President, John Bryson, said the project would improve the long-term sustainability of the grounds and help ensure they remain available for community use, even during dry periods and water restrictions. 

"The project will help ensure the ongoing upkeep and usability of the grounds, even during periods of low rainfall or water restrictions, supporting the long-term viability of these facilities for community use. 

"Receiving $9,735 support from Hunter Water is a significant benefit to our organisation. It will help us maintain our grounds more sustainably while continuing to host more than 30 dog show exhibitions each year and provide affordable training and education programs that support responsible dog ownership across the community," Mr Bryson said.
