Selling a property
Once you’ve sold your property, you won’t need to inform us of the sale.
Our water and sewerage services remain up and running even when a property changes hands. This means you don't need to call us to close an account—it will happen automatically as part of the settlement process.
Here's what will happen
-
Changing the property out of your name
Your solicitor will send the new property ownership details through to the NSW Land Registry Services to be updated. Once this has been completed, the information will be automatically updated in our system. This process can take between six to 12 weeks.
The property will then be changed into the new owner's name.
-
Current charges at time of sale
As part of the settlement process, the conveyancer will request a water rates certificate (known as a Section 47 Certificate), which provides up-to-date information on the applicable charges for the property. They will then calculate any outstanding charges in settlement to be paid.
You do not need to provide a current meter read.
-
Cancel your payments
Don't forget to contact us to cancel any automatic payments you may have set up with us. This will ensure that you don’t make any payments that your conveyancer is not aware of once they have received the water rates certificate.
If you have made a payment after settlement, let your conveyancer know. They will be able to organise the relevant adjustments.

Why have I received an account for the property I just sold?
It can take up to 12 weeks for the property ownership details to be updated in our system from NSW Land Registry Services, so we may still have the account in your name. Please disregard this bill as it will be sent to the new owner once the records have been updated.
