Clarence Town Wastewater Treatment Works
The Clarence Town Wastewater Treatment Works serves the residential area of Clarence Town.
The plant currently treats 53 megalitres per year and services about 1,000 people.
The Clarence Town Wastewater Treatment Works consists of the following process elements:
- Influent receival chamber
- Primary oxidation pond
- Secondary oxidation pond
- Effluent maturation pond
- Effluent storage pond
- Effluent re-use area with an irrigation system
Recycling and reuse
The Clarence Town Wastewater Treatment Works is designed to provide 100 per cent reuse in dry years and 94 per cent reuse in wet years.
Approximately 17 hectares of land has been allocated for the reuse of effluent. The recycled water from the Clarence Town Wastewater Treatment Works is used on-site for the irrigation of a range of fodder crops.

Environmental Licence Monitoring
Pollution monitoring data is collected by Hunter Water, as required under the Environment Protection Licences (EPL) issued by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
