Payment Assistance Scheme

The Payment Assistance Scheme operates through registered community welfare agencies with trained staff to assist customers experiencing financial difficulties.  To access this service you are required to contact one of the agencies below to make an appointment and take along a copy of your most recent Hunter Water bill. The agency you choose will assess your individual needs and circumstances, and will offer you assistance accordingly.

This assistance may include a rebate on your Hunter Water bill.

St Vincent de Paul

Offers support to residents throughout our area of operations and will arrange to visit you in your home, including customers in outlying areas such as Dungog.

Customers who wish to discuss support options with St Vincent de Paul are encouraged to contact them on (02) 4961 6885 between 9am and 1pm, Monday-Friday to arrange an appointment.

The Salvation Army

Provides support through their customer centre and can be contacted by calling 1300 371 288.

The Salvation Money Care Newcastle - is a free and confidential financial counselling service for people who may be facing financial difficulties or wanting to avoid financial difficulties in the future. Staff can help with a range of issues including budgeting, credit and debt.

Northern Settlement Services

Provides support to Hunter residents at their centre which is conveniently located at 8 Chaucer Street, Hamilton. 

If you would like to discuss your situation with Northern Settlement Services you should phone them on (02) 4969 3399 between 9am and 4pm, Monday-Friday to arrange an appointment time.


Operate a network of centres throughout the Hunter where they can provide financial assessment and support services. Samaritans offer appointments for emergency relief at various times at its centres.  If you would like to discuss support options with them, please contact them on (02) 4960 7100 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Maitland Neighbourhood Centre

Offers a financial assessment and support service to customers at their centre which is located at Arthur Street, Rutherford. Dungog Shire Community Centre

Provides support to the people of Dungog Shire. Hours of Operation are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 3pm; Wednesday from 9am to 1pm. The centre is closed daily from 1pm to 1.30pm.

Cancer Council Hunter Central Coast 

The Cancer Council Hunter Central Coast provide information and support to those whom are receiving treatment for cancer. Support varies from Financial Assistance, Living well after cancer, Home help services, Transport to Treatment and Support Groups.
