Wastewater Treatment Works

Wastewater from households, commercial premises, schools, hospitals and industry enter a network of wastewater pipes that all ultimately lead to a wastewater treatment facility.

Hunter Water operates a number of wastewater treatment works (WWTW) at:

  1. Karuah

    Karuah Wastewater Treatment Works currently treats 0.34 Megalitres per day and can handle wastewater from a population equivalent to 1450 people.
  2. Kearsley

    Kearsley Wastewater Treatment Works serves the communities of Kearsley and Neath. It can handle wastewater from a population equivalent to 2050 people.
  3. Kurri Kurri

    Kurri Kurri Wastewater Treatment Works treats 3.4 Megalitres per day.
  4. Morpeth Wastewater Treatment Works Thumbnail

    The Morpeth Wastewater Treatment Works serves the communities of Maitland, East Maitland, Ashtonfield, Metford, Morpeth, Thornton and Beresfield.
  5. Paxton WWTW

    Paxton

    The Paxton Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) services the townships of Paxton, Ellalong and Millfield.
  6. Raymond Terrace WWTW

    Raymond Terrace

    Raymond Terrace Wastewater Treatment Works serves the communities of Raymond Terrace, Medowie and some parts of Heatherbrae, treating 7.3 Megalitres per day.
  7. Shortland

    The Shortland Wastewater Treatment Works serves local communities and collects industrial sewage from Kooragang Island's Steel River Project.
  8. Tanilba Bay

    The Tanilba Bay Wastewater Treatment Works, commissioned in 1993, serves the communities of Lemon Tree Passage, Mallabula and Tanilba Bay.
  9. Toronto

    The Toronto Wastewater Treatment Works treats six megalitres per day and can handle wastewater from a population equivalent to 42,000 people.
