Suburbs Connect to the Newcastle Sewerage Scheme

The Public Works Department constructed the Newcastle Sewerage Scheme with Newcastle, Merewether and a small part of Hamilton joining the system. Sewers and reticulation mains 24 miles long and serving 52 properties were transferred to the Board in 1907.

The city's untreated sewage was discharged from the cliffs at Merewether as part of the original scheme.
