Hunter Sewerage Project Commitment

The Hunter Sewerage Project was announced in August 1986.

A joint project with the New South Wales Government, the Hunter Sewerage Project was developed in direct response to the increasing problems associated with unsewered areas near Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens waterways.

Problems with inefficient septic tanks and illegal disposal of septic effluent raised both public health and environmental concerns.

The Hunter Sewerage Project aimed to progressively connect unsewered areas to the sewerage system.

The scheme provided benefits for both the community and the environment by treating sewage in a more efficient manner, helping to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
