Port Waratah Gets Temporary Water Supply

In the early stages of the production of steel by Broken Hill Proprietary Co Ltd (BHP) at Port Waratah, Hunter Water had great difficulty meeting the company's requirements using the Walka Water Supply Scheme.  BHP made a determined but unfruitful attempt to establish a private water supply scheme on Stockton Sandbeds.

Hunter began work on a temporary water supply to Port Waratah where the steel works was being constructed. The project involved a temporary pipeline and increasing the number of pumping engines at Walka Water works increased and installing seventh filter bed.
