Assessment of hydraulic designs is undertaken to ensure the proposed works does not detrimentally impact on the integrity of Hunter Water’s water and sewer systems.
The assessment is also undertaken to ensure the development complies with the design principles and requirements of our Operating Licence, Customer Contract and the Services Connection Policy.
We require you to prepare and submit hydraulic designs if your proposed development falls into any of the following categories:
- water services of 32mm diameter or greater
- more than 2 residential units on the lot
- when a commercial development requires a meter greater than 25mm
- the development requires an internal fire service or alterations to existing services
- there is potential for trade waste to be discharged to Hunter Water sewer or there are alterations proposed to an existing installation
- where water supplied is to be used in manufacturing processes
- if there is a request to either upsize or downsize an existing meter
- any development which is considered to be outside normal connection criteria
- if the development requires an internally boosted water system
- private pressure sewer pump systems (other than common pump effluent systems)
- multiple water metering systems
- multiple underground rain water tanks installed when a Hunter Water drinking water supply could be connected indirectly or directly
- any alternative water supply systems other than rain water
Hydraulic Plans shall be prepared and submitted in accordance with the NSW Code of Practice: Plumbing and Drainage and Australian Standards AS/NZ 3500 and Hunter Water services connection policy.
The submitted design shall clearly identify design standards and referenced as AS/NZS3500 or a Deems to Satisfy System. Deems to satisfy systems would require the accompanying independent certification documents. The design shall fully encompass the scope of works detailed in the Hunter Water services connection policy.
We also require the following information to be included on plans submitted for review:
- any Hunter Water water and sewer mains
- location of existing water meters and sewer connections
- type of connection to Hunter Water sewer system i.e. inspection shaft or boundary trap
- the reduced level (RL) of overflow gullies, ground floor level basement also 1-in-100-year flood level. Location of shafts for individual strata units. Indicate where and how water is to be used in processing
- cross connections between Hunter Water water system and other water systems
- trade waste facilities (size, type and description)
- air conditioning cooling towers
- the total simultaneous water supply demand per litre per second
- the total daily sewerage discharge to Hunter Water sewerage system
- information and design drawings if the scope of works extends outside the confines of the property boundary
- management/ownership plan
- registered Strata Plans
