    • Are Hunter Water wastewater treatment works operational 24 hours a day?

      Answer

      Hunter Water treatment facilities accept tankered discharge between hours 7am & 3pm. Discharges outside these hours may be possible through separate application.
    • Can any tanker discharge at a Hunter Water wastewater treatment works?

      Answer

      No. Every tankered load must be via a company who hold a current Tankering Agreement with Hunter Water.
    • Does each wastewater treatment works accept all tankered discharge types?

      Answer

      No. Refer to page 7 of our Tankering Policy for a list of waste categories accepted at each of wastewater treatment works.
    • How do I pay for the fees and charges associated with the trade wastewater agreement?

      Answer

      The fees and charges for the trade wastewater agreement will be included in the property owner’s next Hunter Water Corporation account.
    • What is required if the trade wastewater discharge becomes redundant on a site?

      Answer

      Hunter Water requires the owner/occupier to inform them of cessation of operations on-site, and after inspection to confirm this, the trade wastewater agreement is cancelled.
    • What obligations does a property owner and/or occupier have in regard to a trade wastewater pre-treatment facility?

      Answer

      The property owner and/or occupier is required to ensure the pre-treatment facility is maintained in an operational condition. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduled cleanout of the facility by an accredited contractor, ensuring the integrity of the facility and relative infrastructure to prevent environmental contamination, ensuring safe access for inspection and maintenance.
    • What pre-treatment facility do I need for my operations?

      Answer

      Wastewater discharges from premises vary, and as such, may require different treatment facilities to meet allowed wastewater discharge characteristics. These treatment facilities may include grease arrestors, oil separators, cooling pits, lint traps, dilution pits etc.
    • What records are required to be kept on-site?

      Answer

      Current maintenance and/or cleanout records are to be kept on-site for access by Hunter Water Corporation’s trade waste officers to confirm compliant operation, maintenance and cleanout frequency of pre-treatment facilities.
    • Who is responsible for the trade wastewater discharge?

      Answer

      The trade wastewater agreement is issued to the property owner; however both property owner and occupier have a responsibility for the installation, operation and maintenance of trade wastewater pre-treatment facilities.
