Stormwater drainage

Stormwater drainage charges only apply to customers whose property is located in the catchments of Hunter Water’s stormwater drains. Hunter Water maintains stormwater drainage networks in parts of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Cessnock council areas.

For non residential customers, charges comprise a fixed service charge and property value charges:

• A drainage service charge covers the maintenance and upkeep of the stormwater pipe and channel networks managed by Hunter Water. For non residential customers, this charge is based on the area of your property or whether it is a predetermined ‘low impact’ property (ie areas assessed as having a low area of impermeable surface) such as park areas.
• A property value charge – valuation based (c/$AAV) charges are being progressively eliminated and replaced by a service charge based on property area only. During the transition period until 30 June 2009, both property area service charges and reduced AAV charges will appear on some non-residential bills.
