Surfest is Australia's largest surfing event and is the only Association of Surfing Professionals’ (ASP) endorsed competition for both men and women in New South Wales.

Each September the public is invited to a free family picnic day at one of the Hunter’s favourite picnic spots, Chichester Dam, to kick-off the start of spring. Chichester Dam is situated in the pristine Chichester catchment, near Dungog.

National Maritime Festival
The National Maritime Festival celebrates Newcastle’s rich maritime history and is now not only Newcastle’s longest running event, but one of Australia’s largest annual maritime festivals.

Catchment Day
Water Week has been a national environmental event for more than ten years, with Catchment Day a major drawcard in the Hunter. The event is one of fun and learning; raising community awareness about our precious waterways and water resources.
