Hunter Treatment Alliance
The Hunter Treatment Alliance has reached significant milestones of late, including the unveiling of its logo, moving into new offices at Wickham and commencement of construction activities for the upgrade of Burwood Beach WWTW.
Moving Forward
With a purpose of fulfilling our mission:
"our collaborative, high performing team will deliver enhanced environmental outcomes for the Hunter community through a successful infrastructure improvement program",
the Hunter Treatment Alliance will undertake $240 million worth of upgrades at thirteen of Hunter Water's wastewater treatment works over the next five years.
Background
In July 2008, the Board approved the procurement approach of establishing an Alliance Contract to undertake a program of upgrades to thirteen Wastewater Treatment Works.
An Alliance approach was chosen based on the outcome of an examination and testing of all construction procurement options against our "best for project" program requirements.
An Alliance provided the best fit solution. The scope of the Alliance includes concept design, detailed design, construction and commissioning of Wastewater Treatment Works upgrades.
The Hunter Alliance is made up of Hunter Water, CH2M HILL and Abigroup. This innovative partnership is a first for Hunter Water.
The benefit of the Alliance is that it enables the program to be delivered on time with a high degree of flexibility in scope development necessary for a program of works where requirements may change.
Having the one team undertake design and construction across the whole program will enable lessons learnt to be implemented on all projects. An alliance will provide the necessary number of dedicated resources to undertake such an extensive program.

The Logo
The logo signifies the 3 major partners that make up the Hunter Treatment Alliance and represents the identified 3 critical success factors: Commercial, Social and Technical. Additionally, the 3 rings symbolise the 3 stages in conventional sewerage treatment and embodies the 3 clarifiers which typically form a vital component of a wastewater treatment works.
