Community Grants

  Compass Housing
Compass Housing Services is an organisation that sets out to alleviate the hardship of housing stress for low to moderate income earning households by providing secure and affordable housing. As part of their program the organisation aims to assist their clients in socialisation and independence, a community garden has been developed. In order for this garden to thrive and to teach water efficiency measures, Hunter Water has assisted with the purchase of a slimline rainwater tank.
1st Belmont Scout Group 
This project offers Scouts and their families the opportunity to be connected with the environment and appreciate water as a natural resource. This grant will assist them to purchase a canoe and water study gear (such as snorkelling gear and bathiscopes) to study and appreciate our waterways.
  Macquarie Preschools Cooperative  
Carey Bay preschool is a not-for-profit community based preschool, with staff committed to practices of sustainability and environment education with children and their families. This community grant will allow the preschool to purchase and install a 3000 litre rainwater tank with pump. This tank will allow the preschool to use harvested water on their vegetable and herb garden and for the children’s general ‘water play’ activites.
  Tilligerry Habitat Association  
Tilligerry Habitat Association is an environmental organisation whish is not-for-profit. The organisation has a native plant nursery which propagates plants to revegetate the reserve. This grant will allow them to install an efficient and effective watering system.
  Port Stephens Council 
The Sustainable Living Program aims to generate positive change by engaging the community in experiential workshops. The Program will provide support, knowledge and skills to the community to enable them to adopt more sustainable behaviours.
  Tomaree Community College 
The Tomaree Community College is a not-for-profit community based association which is community owned and managed. The provision of a community grant will allow them to purchase a 10,000 linter rainwater tank for irrigating their one acre Community Garden.
  NuSport 
Newcastle University, The Forum Sports & Aquatic Centre, through its Healthier Schools program has incorporated an environmentally friendly water solutions initiative into a Learn to Swim program encouraging water saving practices. The program includes topics relating to the water cycle, sustainable water management and water conservation.

  Hunter-Central Rivers CMA 
The CMA has long been a partner of Hunter Water due to shared objectives and vision in relation to water and our catchments. The schools brochure competition and catchment crawl are opportunities to interact with students within a certain catchment area and allow them to creatively learn about their catchment.
  Hunter Region Landcare Network & Lake Macquarie Landcare 
Hunter Region Landcare and Lake Macquarie Landcare support local landcare groups in their endeavour to conserve, rehabilitate and better manage river systems; restore bushland and conserve sensitive areas by planting native trees, shrubs and grasses; provide protection for native species including threatened and endangered flora and fauna as well as protect the urban environment.
  Hunter New England Health 
The Good for Kids | Good For Life, Think H20 project focuses on a key message that children should drink quality Hunter Water tap water instead of juices, cordials etc. The funding for cobranded reusable water bottles will help promote a healthy lifestyle image for children aged 2 to 15 years.
  Trees in Newcastle 
Through Hunter Water funding, Tress In Newcastle will undertake coastal revegetation on the Shepherds Hill area in Newcastle. Coastcaring here provides a great way to learn about bush regeneration and what it takes to look after a Threatened Ecological Community, the Themda Grasslands on the seacliffs and coastal headlands.
  Tilligerry Tidy Towns 
Tilligerry Tidy Towns has had a long relationship with Hunter Water and this grant will allow them to continue their great work in the Tilligerry area. The group will continue to plant trees and remove weeds from an area along Tilligerry Creek.
  Wetlands Environmental Education  
The school education program at The Wetlands Centre caters for day visits from schools at all levels of schooling and reflects the NSW DET Environmental Education Policy for Schools requirements. Hunter Water specifically sponsors the Hunter Envirothon Challenge, which is an annual state-wide environmental event that requires children to work through a series of activities related to an environmental scenario.
  Rathmines Primary School 
This community grant will enable the Rathmines Primary school to purchase two rainwater storage tanks on the grounds of their school, thereby ensuring a reliable, renewable source of water for an organic vegetable garden. The philosophy behind the purchase of the rainwater tanks and establishment of the vegetable gardens is to foster an interest in sustainability amongst the students.
