Our New Meter Reading Schedule

YOUR WATER METER READING DATE MAY HAVE CHANGED

To improve the efficiency of water meter reading, Hunter Water has carried out a review of the schedule of when customer water meters are to be read.

This review has led to a number of changes to the current schedule which will affect when some customers receive and have to pay their water bills.  This change will have a one-off impact but will affect the expected timing of future bills. It is possible that this process may require further refining in the future.

Customers are billed 3 times a year and currently receive a bill approximately every 4 months. However, during the period from November 2008 to February 2009, some customers may receive their bill at a different time (earlier or later) due to the changes in the schedule. See below examples of customers receiving bills earlier or later than expected.

Example A – receive bill earlier than expected

  • Customer received and paid their bill in October 2008
  • Customer expects to receive their next bill four months later in February 2009
  • Meter has been re-scheduled and is now to be read in January 2009
  • Customer receive bill in January 2009, one month earlier than expected

Example B – receive bill later than expected

  • Customer received and paid their bill in July 2008
  • Customer expects to receive their next bill 4 months later in November 2008
  • Meter has been re-scheduled and is now to be read in January 2009
  • Customer receives bill in January 2009, three months later than expected

Please note, that this will only affect some customers and these are only examples of what may happen. 

Once the change to the schedule has been made in the billing period from November 2008 to February 2009, customers can expect to receive each subsequent bill approximately four months from the new schedule date.

Customers are advised that for the bill issued in the period November 2008 to February 2009 there will be no change to the amount of the service charges. However due to the adjusted timing of the read date there may be an increase or decrease in usage charges as shown in Example A and Example B for the current bill.

Customers who are billed monthly will continue to receive their bill on or around the same day each month. If you experience any problems paying your bill please contact 1300 657 657 during business hours for assistance.
