Dora Creek Stage 2 WWTW Upgrade
The Dora Creek Wastewater Treatment Works treats the wastewater from the areas of Dora Creek, Morisset, Cooranbong, Bonnells Bay, Yarrawonga Park, Silver Water, Sunshine, Brightwaters, Morisset Park and Wyee Point, an equivalent population of approximately 20,000 people, or 4 million litres of effluent per day. The current plant has the capacity to service an equivalent population of 24,000 people.
A plant upgrade is required to service high levels of growth in the area and continue to meet increasingly stringent environmental and community standards in wastewater treatment and environmental protection. The upgrade will service demand until approximately 2030.
The upgrade includes the following features:
- New odour control facilities
- Provision for future additional nutrient removal requirements if required.
- Continued effluent reuse at Eraring Power Station.
- Reuse of treated effluent for reclaimed water for onsite use at the inlet works and future biosolids handling facilities, resulting in a reduced demand for potable water.
The upgrade will be commissioned in 2010 at an estimated capital cost of $16M.
In conjunction with the WWTW upgrade, the existing effluent main will be extended from Eraring Power Station to Rathmines to allow the additional effluent to be discharged to the ocean via the Belmont Ocean Outfall.
