Exhibition of Environmental Assessment - Paxton Wastewater Treatment Works Upgrade
Hunter Water Corporation (HWC) operates the existing Paxton Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) to serve the township of Paxton. The Paxton WWTW and sewerage scheme were constructed as part of the Hunter Sewerage Project in 1992 with sufficient capacity to serve the township of Paxton – equivalent to 750 persons.
The nearby townships of Millfield and Ellalong are to be sewered under the NSW State Government’s Priority Sewage Program. The design, options and impact of the piping network for Millfield and Ellalong is being examined separately from this work. HWC plans to upgrade the Paxton WWTW to treat wastewater from Ellalong and Millfield and to treat wastewater from estimated development in the area up to the year 2030. The total load in 2030 has been estimated as equivalent to 5000 persons.
Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) has prepared a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) on behalf of HWC to assess the potential environmental impacts of the proposed upgrade. HWC are the proponent and determining authority pursuant to Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The Concept Design has been developed concurrently with the REF, to ensure that environmental requirements have been considered and incorporated during the design phase.
