Welcome to the Hunter Water Website

Information About Your Hunter Water Account - Dungog Shire Residents

As a Hunter Water customer, you will receive three (3) bills a year as opposed to the four (4) you currently receive from Dungog Shire Council.

The bill cycle periods occur:

  • 1 July to 31 October
  • 1 November to 28 February
  • 1 March to 30 June

Water bills will be issued during the above bill cycles after meter reading in your area has been completed.

How are my charges calculated?

Hunter Water’s overall pricing structure is determined by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART). IPART is an independent NSW government agency that sets prices for a range of government services including water, public transport and aspects of gas and electricity charges.

Bill charges

Your bill can be made up of the following types of charges:

Water charges

  • A fixed water service charge for operating the water system – the size of the meter / water service determines the charge. The vast majority of residential properties have a standard 20mm water meter.
  • A water usage charge is applied to the volume of water (measured in Kilolitres) used by an individual customer.  Usage charges generally comprise the greater proportion of an individual customer’s bill and therefore serve to promote wise use of water.

Sewer charges

  • A fixed sewer service charge that covers most of the costs of operating the sewer system.
  • Special Sewer Levy – Clarence Town only
  • A sewer usage charge which is based on the volume of wastewater assessed to be discharged to Hunter Water’s sewerage system. For residential properties 50% of water used on the property is assessed as being discharged to the sewerage system ie (the Sewer Discharge Factor, SDF). For Non-Residential properties SDF is variable.
  • An Environmental Improvement Charge (EIC), which contributes to the cost of providing sewerage to established but unsewered areas in the Lower Hunter.
