The aeration tank shall be fitted with a new replacement floating surface aerator. It should be noted that aerator access is provided by an existing platform on the side of the tank when the aerator is moved toward the platform by detaching an adequate number of guy wires and positioning the aerator at the platform with remaining guy wires. For servicing purposes, the pontoon must be able to support the aerator and at least two (2) maintenance personnel. The aerators must be isolated when accessed by maintenance staff.
Decommissioning of the existing aerator and installation of the new surface aerator shall be performed to cause minimal disturbance to normal system operation. This may involve working during low flow periods or during settle and decant cycles. A typical cycle at the treatment works takes four (4) hours. With two (2) hours aeration, one (1) hour settle and one (1) hour decant. The contractor shall supply a method statement on the procedures required to replace the existing aerator with the new aerator and any required testing prior to delivery of the aerator to site. The work method statement shall focus on minimising instances when the aeration phase without an operating aerator installed within the tank. Work shall not commence until the method statement is approved by HWC.
The existing plant control logic shall govern the operation of the surface operator that will be required to operate during the aeration cycle only.
