IPART Price Determination
On 17 July 2009, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) issued a new pricing determination for Hunter Water's water, sewer, stormwater drainage and miscellaneous charges for the next four years.
The following information explains how bills may increase:
Hunter Water has a payment assistance scheme to help customers on limited incomes or with special needs to pay their bills and save water. From 2009/10, pensioner rebates will increase each year and be maintained at a set proportion of a typical water and sewer bill for pensioner customers.
Current Pricing Information
Hunter Water’s overall pricing structure is determined by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART). IPART is an independent NSW government agency that sets prices for a range of government services including water, public transport and aspects of gas and electricity charges.
IPART carries out periodic reviews of Metropolitan Water Agency prices. In the lead-up to each pricing determination, IPART seeks input from interested persons in the form of written submissions and holds a public hearing to discuss any of the matters raised. Further details of this process can be obtained at IPART.
The new pricing determination sets the maximum prices for water, sewer, stormwater drainage and miscellaneous services from 17 July 2009 to 30 June 2013. Prices for recycled water are set consistent with IPART determined pricing principles.
A residential customer bill can be made up of the following types of charges:
Some customers may also be charged up-front for Miscellaneous Services.
