Checking your water service
As a property owner there are a number of things you can do if you have concerns about your water supply. In most cases, it is best to check what you can at home before contacting us, as some problems can occur in your property, rather than in our system, and these problems are your responsibility to fix. If you have serious concerns or have identified damage or a leak in your service, you should contact a licensed plumber to fix the problem as soon as possible. Hunter Water Corporation does carry out repairs to leaking path taps (next to the meter) as a courteousy service, however, it could take two weeks for the repairs to be completed.
Some checks you can make of your own supply include:
- Importantly, you can check for leaks, as leaking taps or pipes on your property not only waste water, they cost you a considerable amount in water bills for water you don't even get to use!
- Finding out how much water you are using at home is an essential first step in looking for ways to reduce water use – look at our consumption guide so that you can identify your biggest uses of water.
- Sometimes you may find that there is no water at your property – our guide tells you what to do and when to contact us about problems.
