Russell Pascoe
General Manager Assets & Operations

Assets & Operations is Hunter Water’s engineering division responsible for the oversight of all operational assets (from water catchments and dams, water treatment, through the pipe systems and ultimately wastewater treatment and disposal). The division is also responsible for managing all necessary maintenance activities on a day-to-day basis and the development of the asset management strategies that support this maintenance effort in a way that achieves the least cost outcomes for required service levels. The division additionally has responsibility for the forward planning of water resource and wastewater treatment activities and corporate environmental management.

These functions are delivered under a structure that comprises five separate work groups as follows:

System Operations

This group provides oversight of all operational assets via an extensive telemetry system. This includes an after hours technical support role. The group also undertakes incident management, technical support to customer services staff, regulatory liaison for operational purposes and contract management. System Operations also fulfill the role of determining forward asset management strategies for all of our civil and underground assets.

Civil Maintenance

This group undertakes all Hunter Water’s civil maintenance activities – both reactive and preventative. The group uses a core in-house workforce supplemented as required by sub-contractors both for peak workload management and also for some specialist services.

Electrical Mechanical Services

This group undertakes all Hunter Water’s electrical and mechanical maintenance activities – both reactive and preventative. The group uses a core in-house workforce supplemented as required by sub-contractors both for peak workload management and also for some specialist services. In addition to the daily maintenance role, this group also has responsibility for developing asset management strategies for all of our electrical/mechanical equipment.

Water Resource Planning

This group is responsible for the forward planning of our bulk water resource needs including source supply and water treatment capacity. They have a strong involvement with state resource regulators in terms of water access regimes and environmental impacts of sources.  The group has prime responsibility for the major Tillegra Dam project and for the review of the corporation’s Integrated Water Resource Plan.

Wastewater & Environment

This group has responsibility for the monitoring of forward needs for wastewater treatment capacity and the strategic planning of recycling for the corporation. This role involves a strong liaison with the environmental regulator – DECC. The group is also responsible for the development of the corporation’s Environmental Management Plan and reporting on performance against it over time.
