Tillegra Dam

Tillegra Dam is an integral part of the Hunter Water's plan to secure the water future of the Lower Hunter region for at least the next 60 years.  Subject to receiving the necessary approvals, the proposed 450 billion litre dam is to be built in the upper Williams Valley (north of Dungog) at an estimated cost of $406 million.

Hunter Water prepared a paper entitled Why Tillegra Now? which outlines why Hunter Water needs to enlarge its existing water supply with a new water source, and demonstrates why Tillegra is the right decision for the Lower Hunter community.

The paper discusses the international, national and local water resource planning environment, the implications of climate change on reliable water yield for the area, future demand for water in the Lower Hunter, water efficiency initiatives (current and future) and options considered for source augmentation for the region. These are also discussed in Hunter Water's H250 Plan, which is Hunter Water's blueprint for future water resource management.
