Thornton North Recycled Water Dual Reticulation
Hunter Water plans to supply a new residential development of approximately 5,000 properties at Thornton North with recycled water from a new recycled water treatment plant at Morpeth. The recycled water will be reticulated to houses through a third pipe system. The recycled water will be of a quality that is suitable for toilet flushing, garden/lawn watering, and other external uses such as car washing. It is not suitable for drinking, personal washing, filling swimming pools or other recreational contact.
Helping meet BASIX requirements
The provision of a recycled water scheme in this area will meet the State Government’s BASIX water conservation requirements for new houses and is a lower cost solution than rainwater tanks from a total community cost perspective.
The cost of the scheme is expected to be approximately $9 million and is expected to be delivering recycled water to customers in Thornton North by mid 2010.
