Each year Hunter Water embarks on many projects to better improve our services and allow us to keep meeting current and future needs of the communities we serve.

Here is a summary of some of the important projects we have underway or plan to begin in the near future:

Exhibition of Environmental Assessment - Paxton Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTW)

An Environmental Assessment is currently on public exhibition for the upgrade the Paxton WWTW to treat wastewater from Ellalong and Millfield and to treat wastewater from estimated development in the area up to the year 2030.

Tillegra Dam

Hunter Water is constructing a new dam at Tillegra to provide sufficient water to meet the Lower Hunter and Central Coast’s needs for at least 60 years. It will provide a high level of drought contingency and ensure a regional solution to the area’s water supply problems.

Morpeth wastewater system upgrade

Hunter Water has begun upgrading to the wastewater network that serves customers in the Tarro, Thornton, Ashtonfield, East Maitland and Morpeth areas. The upgrade aims to improve network performance during wet weather and to cater for future development in Thornton North and Somerset Park.

Belmont wastewater treatment works upgrade

Hunter Water has begun the upgrade of Belmont wastewater plant to ensure that the wastewater from the increasing population on the eastern side of Lake Macquarie can be treated and processed for the next 15 to 20 years.

Balickera upgrades

Hunter Water plans to install four new pumps at Balickera water pump station (near the existing Grahamstown Dam) to enable greater capture of high flows from the Williams River. The works will reduce the time to recover following drought conditions and improve the chances of Grahamstown Dam being at a higher storage level when a drought sequence commences.

Dora Creek wastewater improvements

Hunter Water plans to upgrade its wastewater treatment works at Dora Creek and extend the effluent transfer main. The upgrade will increase the capacity of the plant, ensuring that anticipated growth can be serviced until 2030.

Gosford Wyong water supply

Hunter Water and Gosford Wyong Water Authority are constructing major water infrastructure works to provide a water grid for the Hunter and Central Coast. Once Stage 4 works are completed, Hunter Water could supply up to 35 million litres of water per day to the Central Coast.

Boulder Bay wastewater plant upgrade

Hunter Water plans to upgrade its wastewater treatment works at Boulder Bay providing treatment services to the Tomaree Peninsula which will ensure expected needs are met until approximately 2028.

Thornton North recycled water dual reticulation

Hunter Water plans to supply new residential development of approximately 5,000 properties at Thornton North with reticulated recycled water from a recycled water treatment plant at Morpeth. The recycled water is suitable for toilet flushing, garden/lawn watering, and other external uses such as car washing.
