Reservoir.
In 1903 there was a major drought in the Hunter region. This drought led to a range of improvements to the water supply system including system extensions inland to Stanford Merthyr, Pelaw Main and Greta.
In 1904 the West Wallsend reservoir was brought into use to service the area that was growing principally supported by coal mining. The reservoir holds 100,000 gallons (0.455ML) and was filled by a small duplex pump at Minmi reservoir (since decommissioned) and a 150mm delivery pipe.
